COVID-19 Fundraising Initiative
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the council joined efforts with the Council of Ghanaian Associations in Denmark to raise funds to support Ghana’s response to the pandemic. The initiative was part of a broader appeal by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, encouraging Ghanaians in the diaspora to contribute to the country’s COVID-19 response.
Key facts about the initiative
- The Ghana National Council of Sweden and Ghanaian associations in Denmark jointly raised 41,343 Swedish krona.
- The funds were donated to support Ghana’s fight against COVID-19.
- The donation was presented in Accra by Amerley Ollenu Awua-Asamoah, Ghana’s Ambassador to Denmark.
- It was received on behalf of the government by Mohammed Habibu Tijani, then Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
