The Ghana National Council of Sweden (GNCS, hereafter, the National Council) was founded on 1st May 2020, to act as an umbrella organization for Ghana Union/Associations in Sweden, thereby providing a common platform where the challenges and concerns of all Ghanaians in Sweden can be discussed and addressed. The National Council is currently headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and functions as an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization, dedicated to alleviating the welfare of the Ghanaian community in Sweden.
GNCS aims to foster unity among Ghanaian communities in Sweden, providing a forum for discussing and resolving shared issues. The Council also facilitates collaboration among its member organizations, promoting cultural heritage and integration within Swedish society.
The Council is led by Chairperson Dr. Josephine Antwi (Nana Afia Achiaa Deiwaa I), who also serves as the Queen Mother of the Asante community in Sweden. The executive team includes a General Secretary and the Treasurer, who oversee the Council’s operations and initiatives.
Key Initiatives and Collaborations
GNCS actively collaborates with the Ghana Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, to provide Mobile Consular Services (MCS) in cities like Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. These services offer convenient access to consular assistance for Ghanaians in Sweden.
In November 2023, a GNCS delegation visited H.E. Mrs. Sylvia Naa Adaawa Annoh, Ghana’s Ambassador to Sweden and Denmark, to strengthen ties and explore avenues for cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.
